Cycling Safety Workshop at Dal AC

The Office of Sustainability and the Dal Bike Centre are hosting a cycling safety workshop at the Langille Athletic Centre on the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus. At this event, participants will learn cycling basics including introductory rules and techniques, road ethics, and how to share the road. The Nelson Memorial Park's Bandstand will host some exceptional music talent from musical groups that many of you know - total of about 5 hours of music/song.

* Hal Bruce - doing cover songs that are very entertaining - incl Beatles favs .

Jim Richards with his Rusty Cage Band - Is it Jim or is it Johnny Cash ?

Joan Kennedy with her trio . Cover songs and some Originals .

Also at the Park's Road Train Station will be several unique vendors of self made products . The local 4H club will also be displaying crafts and animals .

The TransCanada Trail runs right past the Bandstand - bring your bike or rent a 4 wheel / 2 person bike . You can launch your canoe or kayak into Tata bay and paddle up the French or Waugh rivers .

There's a children's playground on site . Music Begins about 1 pm .

There will be a barbecue and cold and hot drinks during the Saturday afternoon.

This session is designed to teach youth and adults how to lead the Making Tracks Scootering program for children and youth in their communities. During this session you will learn about safety, knowing equipment, scooter control and pushing, riding, turning, how to pick a safe route and lots of other fun skills. Beginners are welcome and even experienced scooterers will learn some tips and tricks. By the end of the session participants will be able to demonstrate to others what they have learned and hopefully lead a session of their own.

Required: Ability to ride a scooter; a scooter and properly fitted multi-sport or cycling helmet (these may be made available if asked for in advance); suitable clothes for the weather

Field Leader- Hiking Course-Hike NS

Field Leader – Hiking Course Nov. 7-8, Truro

A Field Leader – Hiking Course will be offered in Truro on November 7 and 8 at the Nova Scotia Community College. It will provide participants with Outdoor Council of Canada (OCC) national certification in Field Leader – Hiking. This includes skills to organize and lead others in a one day, educational or activity based experience in a natural environment. The course is two days in length and will provide successful candidates with the necessary skills to be a confident hiking leader. The program is suitable for hiking club leaders, trail group volunteers, recreation department staff, teachers, 4H leaders, Scout and Guide leaders, parents or individuals interested in leading hikes. Courses are taught by OCC certified instructors. The cost is $100 ($90 for current paid Hike NS members). The course is offered through Hike Nova Scotia in partnership with the Nova Scotia Chapter of the OCC and supported by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness. Hike NS thanks its local partner the Nova Scotia Community College for its support.

On October 18th at 6:00 pm at the Riverside Park Gazebo, Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre, Dal AC Campus, and the Mi’kmaw Family Healing Centre are holding the annual Take Back The Night March – a one mile community walk and vigil. The goal of the event is to show that residents of Colchester County are actively taking a stand to end sexual violence in our various communities!
