Hike the Great Trail (Gully Lake) (All day)

Cobequid Eco-Trails Society invites you to hike The Great Trail! (Gully Lake Trail System)

The Great Trail, created by Trans Canada Trail and many partners began 25 years ago. It's 24,000 km of multi-use recreation trail is the longest network of its kind.

On August 26, 2017, Canada will be celebrating its grand opening!

Please join us to celebrate our section of the Great Trail: the Gully Lake Trail System!

All the trails are designated as part of The Great Trail.


Hike Option #1

Where: Meeting place is at the intersection of the Kemptown Road and Hwy 311 in Earltown.

Time: 9:15 am

Length: 18 km of wilderness trails

Hiking time: 6-7 hours

To pre-register: sgwilson53@hotmailcom or 902-895-2007

Must have: water, lunch, proper footwear, dress in layers, bug spray

We will park our cars at the meeting place and then travel 30 minutes to the Glen Road trailhead.
**You must pre-register so that we can arrange transportation to the Glen Road.**

We will start the hike on the Juniper Head Trail, then hike part of the Gully Lake Loop, the Willard Kitchener MacDonald Trail, part of the Sandy Cope Loop, to the Portage and Earltown Lakes Trail and finish at Hwy 311 where the cars are parked. All the trails are designated as part of The Great Trail.


Hike Option #2

Where: Meeting place is the trailhead at 734 Glen Road, Pictou County (off Route 4)

Time: 10:30 am

Length: 6 km or 12 km of wilderness trails

Hiking time: 3 hours for 6 km and 4.5 hours for 12 km

Must have: water, lunch, proper footwear, dress in layers, bug spray

The 6 km group will hike the Juniper Head Trail.

The 12 km group will hike the Juniper Head Trail and the Gully Lake Loop to Gully Lake and return.

Great Trail Celebration in Tatamagouche (Sat. 26 Aug, 2017 10:00 am - 2:00 pm)

Tatamagouche Area Trails Association invites you to celebrate The Great Trail!

On August 26, 2017, Canada will be celebrating its grand opening.

Please join us in Tatamagouche to celebrate our section of the Great Trail!

Where: On the Butter Trail and at Nelson Memorial Park (153 Loop of Highway 6 in Bayhead)

10:00 am Bike the Trail (Approximately 20 km return)
Meet at the Station Road trailhead parking lot (24 Station Road), bike with family and friends to the Sutherland Steam Mill Museum in Denmark and return, continuing to Nelson Park. Option to start at the Sutherland Stream Mill and bike to Nelson Park to join the festivities.

10:30am Hike the Trail (Approximately 6 km)
Meet at the Station Road trailhead parking lot (24 Station Road), hike with family and friends to the Sunrise Mercantile (Highway 6 crossing) and return to Nelson Park.

11:30am Yoga Meditation Hike (Approximately 30 minutes)
Meet at Nelson Park and take a relaxing meditation hike through the natural setting of Nelson Park beautiful gardens and peaceful trails.

11:30am Historical Hike (Approximately 30 minutes)
Meet at Nelson Park and take a guided tour hike to Montbeliard Cemetery.

11:30 am Seek-and-Find Hike (Approximately 2 km)
Take your little ones over to Nelson Park for a fun couple of hours starting with a fun seek-and-find hike around the open trails of Nelson Park.

Noon to 2:00 pm BBQ (Approximately 2 hours)
Meet up with old friends and new at Nelson Park, have a chat with the Tatamagouche Area Trails Association members as they cook you up a delicious hamburger or hotdog. Cold beverages, fruit and veggie trays will also be available and a blueberry cake to celebrate the day. Various children's activities including a mini hike, face-painting and more will make it a fun day for your family.
