VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - CITIZEN APPOINTEES FOR VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMITTEES

The Municipality of Colchester is currently seeking volunteers to fill various vacancies on the following Boards and Committees for the 2020-2024 term of Council:

Agricultural Working Committee:  1-2 representatives from the farming industry;

Audit Committee: 1-2 citizen representatives;

Citizens Monitoring Committee (Kemptown Host Community):  6 host community representatives (applicants must reside in Kemptown) and 6 members at large;

Citizens Monitoring Committee (Wind Turbines): 1-2 citizen representatives from each Greenfield, Nuttby, and Truro Heights/Hilden;

Cobequid Housing Authority:  1 citizen representative;

Debert Business Park Advisory Committee:  2 business representatives, 1 citizen representative;

Debert Source Water Protection Advisory Committee:  1 business representative, 1 citizen representative and 1 representative from the First Nation Community;

Flood Advisory Committee: 2 citizen representatives;

Joint Flood Advisory Committee:  1 citizen representative;

Joint Planning Advisory Committee: 1 citizen representative;

Joint Police Advisory Board:  2 citizen representatives;

Planning Advisory Committee:  4 citizen representatives;

Tatamagouche Planning Advisory Committee:  5-7 citizen representatives (applicants must reside in the Village of Tatamagouche);

Tatamagouche Source Water Protection Advisory Committee:  2 citizen representatives (applicants must be from the Tatamagouche watershed area), 1 representative from the North Shore River Restoration Group, and 1 representative from the Village Commission;

Tatamagouche Water Utility Committee:  3 citizen representatives (applicants must live in the area serviced by the Tatamagouche Water Utility).

Tax Sale - November 17, 2020

In accordance with the Municipal Government Act of the Province of Nova Scotia,

TAKE NOTICE

That the lands and premises situated in the County of Colchester hereunder described shall be SOLD AT PUBLIC AUCTION for the arrears of rates and taxes due to the Municipality of the County of Colchester, unless the arrears of rates, taxes and expenses hereunder specified are paid in full. The auction will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, 42 Brunswick Street, Truro on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.  The Municipality will follow Public Health Guidelines and procedures, such as social distancing, providing hand sanitizer upon entry, and the wearing of masks.  Masks (non-medical) will be mandatory.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - Citizen Appointee for the RECC Board

The Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC) is a leading sport, recreation and wellness facility in Eastern Canada operated by a Board of Directors.  The Board provides governance and leadership for all operational elements of the facility.  The Municipality of Colchester is currently seeking a highly motivated, skilled and dynamic citizen representative to fill a seat on the RECC Board for a four-year term.

Individuals interested in applying to fill this seat on the Board are asked to respond in writing by October 30, 2020.  Applications or letters of interest outlining credentials and related experience in this capacity, contact information, as well as any other relevant information, should be forwarded to:

Notice of Approval - Chapter 33 - Solid Waste By-law

TAKE NOTICE that on Thursday, September 24, 2020, Council of the Municipality of Colchester approved, by way of Second Reading, amendments to Chapter 33 – Solid Waste By-law.

The purpose of these amendments is to regulate the disposal of asbestos waste within the Municipality of the County of Colchester.

The text of the By-law may be inspected or a copy obtained from the Administration Office, 1 Church Street, Truro, or is available on the County website at www.colchester.ca.

Notice of Approval Chapter 18 – Municipal Elections By-law

TAKE NOTICE that on Thursday, September 24, 2020, Council of the Municipality of Colchester approved, by way of Second Reading, amendments to Chapter 18 – Municipal Elections By-law.

The purpose of the amendments to the By-law is to provide clarification on the method of in-person voting for additional advance polls.

Special Council Meeting

A Special Session of Municipal Council of the Municipality of Colchester will be conducted virtually, via Zoom Meeting, on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, beginning at 6:00 pm.   

The purpose of this Special Session of Council is for Council to receive and approve the 2019/20 Consolidated Financial Statements.
