Dog Tags

Every dog in the Municipality of Colchester must be licensed and wear a dog tag. Having a license helps your dog be brought home sooner when they are lost or loose.

Dog Tag Fees

The Municipality of Colchester is now offering Lifetime Licenses for $25 per dog.

Four or more dogs $75 total

Replacement tags can be purchased for $12

In Person (credit is not accepted)

To purchase a lifetime tag by debit, cash, or cheque, please visit the County office at 1 Church Street in Truro.

Online by Credit Card

The Municipality of Colchester is pleased to add an additional payment option for residents interested in using their credit card to pay their bill. The County has partnered with Paymentus Corporation to bring you the convenience of paying by credit card online. Paymentus Corporation is a third party automated payment service that accepts Visa, MasterCard and Amex.

  • You can pay your bill right away, any time, any day 24/7
  • Paymentus will charge a service fee of 2.50% for each transaction
  • We cannot accept credit cards in person or over the telephone

Animal Control is currently being looked after by the local SPCA. Please call 902-893-7968 to speak with a by-law officer.

When filing a complaint please note you are required to provide your name, address and phone number.
Provide the following details because they are important to the investigation of any complaint:

  • the nature of the complaint
  • civic address of the dog owner
  • the date(s) and time(s) the alleged infraction(s) took place

Animal Control Complaints within the Town of Truro

As of June 1, 2016, the Municipality of Colchester no longer offers animal control services to the Town of Truro. Contact the SPCA at 902-893-7968 for complaints within the Town of Truro.
